Information

At the Alatus Institute, strange things have been happening ever since Douglas Solanum was inducted as the new Assistant Headmaster; and Luka Alatus, the Headmaster, isn't raising any objections. Zephan, however, is only concerned with the question of his deteriorating popularity next to fellow Student Council member Azalea, the daughter of the Headmaster. On the other hand, Azalea is perplexed by her father's apathetic behavior, and she is none too trusting of the Assistant Headmaster either. These events all seem to somehow relate to the mysterious disappearance of Azalea's mother, eight years ago when the needle of the compass of fate began to spin off-course.

Questions

  • Who are you?

My name is Hans Tseng, and I am the author and artist of Directions of Destiny! If you would like to know more about me, feel free to visit my personal website, Slime Mansion!

  • When do you update?

I update every Thursday, 12AM Pacific Standard Time. If I don't update on time, I usually post something saying that I'm not updating or that I'll update at a later time. Usually I try to keep up with the schedule though.

  • Are you considering getting published?

The comic is currently self-published and is available for purchase here on this website, and at various major anime conventions in North America. Check the calendar on my personal website to find out which conventions I'll be attending this year!

  • What server do you use for your site?

I've been using PowWeb for several years now and they've given me very few problems. If you're looking for a new server for your website, I highly recommend them, and registering with the link I provided will also benefit me in adding hosting credit to my account!

  • May I use your picture(s) for...
    • My website?

Yes, ON THE CONDITION THAT you provide proper credit and a link back to my site.

    • My desktop/notebook/folder?

Sure! If it's for personal use, that's fine with me.

  • May you draw me a picture of ...?

If you would like to commission art from me, please take a look at the Commissions page on my personal website for pricing details and then contact me to work something out.

  • How do you make your pages?

I draw them on 8½×11 bond paper with a pencil, usually a mechanical pencil with .5 lead, then I ink them with nib pens, and finally I scan them into the computer and fix it up and shade them using Deleter ComicWorks and Adobe Photoshop CS2. Occasionally I also digitally draw in other parts of the page, such as backgrounds or small details that I don't trust myself doing on paper.

  • What programs do you use?

As mentioned, I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 for graphic design and shading the pages, a little bit of Deleter ComicWorks for digital inking, and I use Microsoft Notepad for my HTML editting. I used to use Corel Paint Shop Pro, but the program has poor memory processing algorithms so it takes forever to do anything remotely demanding; and Corel Painter, but it's got a knack for crashing, so ultimately I decided to not use it anymore for the sake of the stability of Photoshop.

  • May I link to your website?

    Sure, why not. :3

  • May we exchange links?

The list of comics on my Links page are only those which I keep up with regularly, regardless of whether they've linked back to me. It's not a consummate list, as I read comics in addition to those on my Links page, but those are the ones that I would recommend to my readers based on their content in relation to the content on my own comic (so even if I enjoy a particular webcomic, if its target audience is vastly different from my own target audience, then I generally do not link it). You are more than welcome to send me an e-mail showing me your webcomic, but generally, I will not respond to link exchange requests.

  • May we affiliate our websites?

    Sorry, I do not affiliate!

  • How did you learn how to draw?

Through hard work, diligence, and careful observation of my surroundings. I've recently started taking art classes in university, which has helped me better my understanding of what makes a good composition, as well as taking me outside my comfort zone in terms of what I'm normally willing to draw.

  • How did you learn how to make a website?

I read some basic HTML guides on the internet, and started out from there. Although I've tried using an HTML editor before, I've found that I generally prefer to work with the code directly. When I first started out however and I didn't know how to code something, I sometimes would make the HTML in an HTML Editor and see how the editor made it by viewing the HTML Source. Nowadays I just look up HTML resources on Google (such as CSS Zen Garden and A List Apart, or I would look at another website and see how that website made the code (not copying; learning from example!).

  • Why didn't you respond to my e-mail?

If you used the form to e-mail me, there's a possibility that you didn't enter your e-mail address correctly and consequently I wouldn't be able to e-mail you back. Otherwise it's because I'm, regretfully, lazy. Sometimes, once in a week or two, I'd respond, so replies are usually delayed. But if you don't receive a response from me, it's probably either because your e-mail didn't seem like you expected me to respond (e.g. one-liners, simple comments, etc.), or you had a question which was already answered either here.
