Section 1.5 commences

Ahhh this past week was a little hectic! XO On Saturday I received a letter in the mail from the Office of International Studies--apparently I have a whole NOTHER set of forms to fill out, this time specifically for Waseda University. That's ANOTHER essay to write plus two MORE letters of recommendation. I had just had my interview with the International Program board members so I thought I was completely done with study abroad applications, but then THIS happens. T__T So after freaking out a bit, I spent most of the past three days running around school trying to get more information about this second set of applications, mostly to find that the people I need to talk to are unavailable until some time next week. AUUHGGHlkfds;jfshfa;ksd Japan doesn't want me. :(

...With that said, I tried to finish 9 pages to start off Section 1.5 this week, but instead I'm kind of (okay, REALLY) embarrassed about these pages at the time of this writing. XD()()() Most of the time was spent drawing the crowd scenes in the first two pages, and by the time I checked the clock, it was like, OH CRAP. BUT knowing myself and my Ways, if I posted a note here saying I'll finish the pages by Sunday, I'll probably delay them until NEXT Thursday, putting me even FURTHER behind schedule when my original intent was to get AHEAD of schedule by doing 9 pages this week rather than 8 like last week. So for now most of the pages up are in a reaaally incomplete state, but Iike last time I'll work on them more and put up the finished pages throughout the day, and with any luck I'll finish them all by tonight. Heck, maybe you won't even read this until some time later when the pages are already done and you'll be like "What? What's he ranting about? UGH, Hans talks too much."

...The most embarrassing pages at the moment would probably be pages 4 and 5, so while I'm highly reluctant to say this, because mostly everything in the Predirection should NOT be considered canon any more, in this particular case, the pages are pretty much just visual upgrades of pages 1 and 2 of the same chapter in the old version--or, they're SUPPOSED to be visual upgrades, but uh. at the MOMENT I doubt there's any debate as to which set looks more, uh, presentable. XD() So if the incomplete new versions of the pages really disgust you, I guess you could just kinda. mentally offset them with the old versions for the time being. >_>

SO yeah. If the pages are still incomplete when you see this, check back later today or Friday and they'll probably be done. If the pages are ALREADY done when you see this, then uh, good for you? ;D Okay I gotta take a shower and read my textbooks see you next week bye.

P.S. I STILL WANT YOU GUYS TO POST IN THE FORUMS >:O!!!!

Waseda? I have a bunch of friends who studied there. If there is one thing I learned as a Japanese studies major, its that if you want to do anything with Japan, you need to fill out a form for it. I think that when I applied for Kansai Gaidai, the packet I had to fill out was about thirty pages big, and then when I got accepted, they sent me two more, one for my homestay and another for general information. Have they asked you for fifty passport sized photo's yet?

Kwhee! It's so amazing! Great job, Hans. Keep up the good work! ~.^

This is a little off topic (considering the fact that this should be about today's update), but I noticed that one page 29 of section 1.4, the space between Zephan's legs in the last panel is unshaded. Just thought I'd let you know...

Beautiful pages you had up. The line art and back ground were simple but beautfiul they really added depth to Azalea's dream reality.

Also, the thing about the shading seems very nitpicky to me intoccabile. It seems like you had the best intentions and are most likely an artist yourself. However, there are so many wonderful things to say about this story that mentioning a minor flaw like that without context or mentioning what you enjoyed appears kind of rude.
Of course, you may actually know the artist personally and grow from this type of criticism. In which case, I apologize. I just know how I react to those types of comments.

Also, I'm enjoying the storyline so far, but I wonder why is Douglas in Azalea's room. I mean it is one thing to work with a man it is quiet another to allow that man the freedom to go through the most private corners of your home, especially your daughters bedroom. Unless, ofcourse this is the medical room. In which case, I apologize profusely. I The storytelling has been really solid. It just arouse my curiosity is all.

Queenie and Kiyari, the errors you noted have been fixed! :D

Kiyote, with each form I fill out I die a little on the inside. ;( They HAVE asked for a few passport photos so far, but I'm going to have a talk with my study abroad advisor before I get around to having those done because who's to say they won't send me another 50 bajillion forms and requests for pictures T_T. So maybe he'll have an idea of how much I'll need so I could just get them all done in advance. :x

Intoccabile, I actually googled up image references for the paper cranes at first, but they turned out to not be very good references, so I tried making my own paper crane only to realize that I FORGOT how to make them. X_X() So I ended up asking my little brother to make one for me. XD()()()

And thank you for the comments, Crocodile tears. :D I personally don't find it rude for people to report anything that needs to be fixed in my comments; in fact, I welcome them, so if you ever see anything that looks a little off, don't hold back! And just so you know, that is Azalea's room. ;D

And everyone else, I appreciate your words of encouragement! ♥ Annnd back to finishing these pages I go. XD

Uhm, Crocodile Tears, my comment is the one about the paper cranes, not the one below it. Just clarifying ^^

@Hans: Funny, when I saw the cranes in your comic, I went Googling for them too. Google is our friend! \o/

I think the fact that Luka's letting a strange man in his daughter's bedroom when she's in a vulnerable state (aka sick in bed) tells us that there's probably some aspect of their (Luka and Douglas) relationship that we don't know yet. Luka probably trusts Douglas for some intrigueing reason. How fascinating!!

Intoccabile, I think it's interesting that Azalea was actually 'unpopular' before too! I wonder why...(I don't suppose those crowd scenes were just her dream not an actual memory? oh well, we'll find out sooner or later).

Great work Hans! Even though the pages are unfinished, they don't look as sketchy as the last few unfinished pages were :) In fact, they looked complete to me, albeit a little simple (which, as Crocodile Tears pointed out, actually gives it a nice surreal, dream-like effect).

Whoa. Interesante.

Art sorta reminded me of a coloring book, but I understand you're busy...I couldn't spit out 9 pages of that kind of art in a week, anyway. ^^;

Wow! My older sister has paper cranes hung up on her ceiling too! o_O;;

I see. I liked the whole alphabet-book scene better (very cute), but this is interesting too.

...I didn't imagine Azalea as unpopular before. Seemed kind of off, but then again, makes sense. Keeping us surprised, huh? :P

Posted by: Esther | Feb 24, 2006 11:52 AM

...and did I mention, GIVE US MEI ALREADY!!! T_T

Posted by: Esther | Feb 24, 2006 11:53 AM

Aw Hans well i'm sure u can get all those applications done soon. Hope everything gets better and the update was fine. Tho i kinda expected Azalea to be socially disfunctional in the beginning of her life its still all good tho lol see u later :)

Beautiful finished pages Hans (:

Posted by: Ashley | Feb 26, 2006 1:06 PM

So pretty O_O

Well, I almost didn't notice that it wasn't finished because well, it's a dream ^^.

Posted by: linz | Feb 26, 2006 2:50 PM

Yay, the pages are finished:) I thought they were so beatiful to begin with, and now that they're all coloured and stuff they're even more amazing... Good luck with the pages 'till next thursday, Hans!

Posted by: Emina | Feb 26, 2006 8:12 PM

Hey there! The colored version looks really pretty and breathtaking! I would have posted sooner actually, but I had practices in school and other stuffies. But who cares? Your pages are really beautiful either way. ^_^

To be honest, the whole alphabet scene appealled to me more, since it gave of a more... innocent look? Not really sure if that's the right term, but I guess it'll have to do. ^_^

But that doesn't mean I don't like this newer one! I always had this theory that Azalea was unpopular in the past, which is why she strived so hard to be the best, which is why she's seems so perfect now in the present. I might be off, but I'm just sharing cause I'm such a blabbermouth. ^_^ Anyhow, the kitty's really cute. =)

And about Solanum entering Azalea's room like that... with Luka's permission to boot, it's a really scary thought. And what Luka replied to Solanum about him spending more time with Azalea really intrigues me. Oh well, guess I just have to wait for the next pages. By the way, nice paper cranes! They give off a nice and unique touch to Azalea's room. ^_^

Posted by: Celeste | Feb 27, 2006 3:06 AM

Colored version's pretty. ^^ Much better. Evelyn does look hot now.
...and for anyone else that wants to question me about my opinion on Azalea -_-, now that I've found out she was unpopular I find out we're even more alike. I wonder, did she ever backlash on the people that made fun of her?

Posted by: Esther | Feb 27, 2006 2:05 PM

Hmmm, I don't think Azalea's the kind to backlash or take revenge on people who were nasty to her, she'd just fight for their approval later on. Or perhaps she'd just keep it all bottled it.

Posted by: Ming | Feb 28, 2006 3:13 AM

wow... ^_^ good job

Posted by: Rika | Feb 28, 2006 1:46 PM

thats a pretty big bed for a small kid. plus just saying but i'd find it pretty creepy if one of my dad's friend/co-worker sat by my bed side watching me while i was sick/sleep. lol :P keep up the good work :D

Posted by: Rika | Feb 28, 2006 1:49 PM

Your artwork is soooo beautiful it makes me cry... I look forward to each and every update. It has greatly improved since the old version of DOD.

P.S. please continue Lapis Aquae!!!

Hm, that's probably true. I like the idea of her younger self having spine, though.
