Section 1.5 continues

GWAAARRRR after spending every waking moment of my existence working on these pages over the past few days, I've finally FINISHED IT XO!!! It's a day later than when I said I'd have it up, but I didn't want to rush these pages, and I didn't want to put up incomplete versions either because, like I mentioned, they're pretty much direct revisions of pages 14 through 20 of the Predirection, so if you wanted "incomplete" versions you could've looked at that and it would've probably looked a little better than the incomplete versions I would've put up last night. ;o

Ummmm yeah the three incomplete pages from last week are still incomplete though. ;D() I'll try to have those done as soon as possible~.

There'll probably only be three pages this coming Thursday, but I'll try to put up the last four pages of this section on Sunday. And then onward to Section 1.6!! XO

I had read Predirection before this. So, I guess--maybe I'm a little biased? I think I like this scene in Predirections better b/c it felt like the rougher version held more emotion. And I liked the close-up of Azalea's eyes because they showed more emotion (or should I say, lack of emotion?). And the rain worked better to further the mood in Predirection, I think. Here it just felt like, 'oh, it happens to rain while she was summoning for her first time', without as much force or meaning behind it.

But I like Evelyn's dress design :). It felt more modern, rather than the older poofy type she was wearing in Predirection.

Thanks for updating it!

Beautiful work, Hans!
I'm so glad you stuck to the original for this scene. It's the most moving scene from the original, IMO. Azalea is truly haunting. I love it!

Wow you really must've slaved for these pages. ^_^ But... I've read Predirection before, and I honestly can't say which I like better.

Predirection pages had, as someone had already pointed out, a rougher and more of an emotional feel to it. But it was messy in a sense that it was obvious that you tried to rush it.

But the newer ones were cleaner and more forward than Predirection. It has a new sense of professionalism to it, which makes it look like the art of a truly skilled artist. And yet... as much as these new pages are seemingly better than Predirection's, I guess these new pages had to sacrifice a tad bit of the raw and emotional value Predirection's pages gave us.

But no worries. ^_^ I am still a very big fan of DoD and you, no matter what happens. I'm not saying these pages are uglier, cause you really must have read this wrong. I'm just sharing my opinions.

Good luck in school by the way! ^_^

Haunting, and quite heart breaking. Your last installments were amazing. I really enjoyed them. Thanks!

Posted by: Katherine | Mar 13, 2006 5:40 PM

Your newer pages are much cleaner and they look way more professional then Predirection. There were some pages in Predirection which were moving though..

Btw, did you get the lines in your newest chapter from somewhere or did you create them yourself?

she has disappeared
she has abandoned you
everyone will disappear
but there is one who will always remain
.. your eternal solitude
in the end.. everyone is alone
do not come near me
do not love me
because someday
you will leave me

Either I've read them on Predirection before (I don't think so..) or I'm just plain weird. Cos they sound realli familiar.. Practically predicted the last few lines.

Your newest pages were heartbreaking. I loved pg 21 which showed Azalea growing up. Fab work.

I found that predirection actually lacked emotion, in that the facial expressions seemed so bland in comparison. Especially in relation to Azalea: Her lack of emotion seemed too unrealistic for me. You can now see a lot of emotion in what was once a blank stare. (Compare them~ :D) I understand that the predirection emotion is attributed to the rough sketchiness of it all, but I think that has been channelled into the actual art.

The only thing I didn’t like was the nightgown. A~nd the ring. I actually thought it was a pocket watch until I reread the predirection ^.^;; I guess the perspective works better in predirection?

Keep up the awesome work! :3

ok i was reading through the latest instalment and they mention that the mothers name is magnolia now this made me think and i realized that was the name of the girl in lapis aqui and i checked to make sure. Are they the same people? is lapis aqui like a prequil to directions of destiny

Posted by: Claire | Mar 13, 2006 8:46 PM

To Claire: No, Hans just likes the name Magnolia. =) It's a completely different story.

I'm not sure why becca feels that it looks like a pocket watch? XD The ring is way too big in predirection whereas its size fits the perspective in the new pages!

can't wait to see what happens next. :]

Wow, this installment is a lot like Predirection. However, the changes of the story is pretty apparent.

Just in my opinion, the story and art in this current version is alot more cohesive and it intensifies curiosity to learn what really happened to Magnolia.

Because the story is starting to revolve around Azalea's past, it also raises question, "What is Azalea's relationship with her parents (specifically her mother) and why is it that she feels so isolated?"

That only gives up room for speculation. But why speculate when we can all look forward to Hans' next installment?
