Heeyy guuuyys, sorry I haven't been updating the past few weeks but it's finals time so I had been working on projects and studying and yada yada yada lame crap like that. I prrrobably won't have a real update for you next Thursday, but I'll have -something- to show for my time away from the comic! Until then~
No worries! Finals time for me too, and I know how stressful it gets. Best of luck! :D
Yeah, just take your time on it. I'm going for an illustration major and it gets pretty hectic at the end of the semester too. After all, rushing art is stressful.
Aw, that's ok. I can understand that quite a bit ^^; (finals are next week for us too..)
Good luck on your exams =D
Waiting with bated breath. : ) Good luck.
Don't worry about it. Its finals time for a lot of students. And you're an art student, which means you're really busy. We'll just wait patiently. :)
Hm I guess I haven't missed anything lately. I must be one of the few people who isn't in preparation for finals. I don't have to worry about that until the second week of January.
Yay.
Thanks Hans for the update.
Ouch dude know the feeling Still need to write 2 more papers plus 2 finals and just got done with a major project with my university's theater where I was both production assistant and props manager. Best of luck and kick ass on those finals.
No worries Sir Hans. I feel your pain. >.
No worries. I feel your pain. I have five pages to write today on tooth development. *wince* I will be back on Thursday to check! (rabid fangirl)
Merry (belated) Xmas Hans! :D Hope your exams went well~ can't wait til updates resume
Happy New Years!
I hope updates are coming soon!
You've got the skill, but quite frankly at this rate I don't spy a chance of you finishing this manga within your lifetime. I'm sure you have your reasons.
I really really really hope you will start updating again soon. I was really intrigued by the story and wanna know how it continues. I hope everything is okay with you Hans!
youre doing great! keep it up.
Come on, Hans, don't disappoint us. D: Show us some motivation! ^^
Come on Hans sweep us off our feet with your skills
>.o -pokes for signs of life-
Yeah I'm kind off wondering if everything is okay with Hans I mean when this all started he said he was having personal troubles I really hope he didn't do anything stupid like committing suicide :S:S:S
Um, Cizsel, I don't think he's suicidal. His personal troubles I believe were school related like finals that had to be done.
Me thinks he's rewriting it again and is trying to make it as good and epic as he can. At least I hope that's the case I really like dod and hope you continue updating.
Uhh, naw I think he said somewhere in the forum that he was having financial problems paying for college and whatnot, so he's always doing homework or working to pay for it, and doesn't have time for the comic. But that's okay, we support you Hans! :3
WOW here's to wishing Hans the best of luck. Hang in there dude :D
Financial troubles suck... kind of happy that's all there is going on! I hope you'll get it all together soon Hans!
lol. I would die if he was going to rewrite it all AGAIN. XD
If he were rewriting it, it wouldn't be from the very beginning seeing as Unit 1 is in print and if he redoes it with all these people who have bought copies, there will be an angry mob after him. Now THAT would be suicidal. Consider this, which would you prefer: an awesome story with awesome artwork or a less great version? Personally, I'd like a fully tricked out Unit 2 that I can display on my bookshelf next to my Unit 1.
I agree with you Hanh...but how long will that take? >
Has this comic been forgotten?
sigh i was so hopeful for a while.
T_______________T
HAAAANS...
COME BAAAACK...!
just publish the comic and make money already, sigh.....
JK =3
Esther>> Well it's hard to say. Rewriting chapters or even whole scenes can take a lot of thought and time if you don't like the original script. I had to rewrite three different sections of Chapter 4 and it took about 4-6 months to complete. But I'm glad how it turned out. I just say give him the time he needs and he'll get back to us.
D: Oh noes! I hope it's not another year long hiatus. T_T
I'd say something witty, but I'm not in the mood.
Your story's alright if a bit trite, the drawing's fairly good, it's somewhat creative, and at this rate I no longer expect you to finish this within your lifetime.
I've been following Directions of Destiny and checking updates for quite some time now, and no more. Either start updating or just fucking close down. Stop pussyfooting like this. You're not doing anyone, including yourself, any good with this.
I'd call it a half-assed effort but at this point that would be a compliment, since that would be merely implying that you only take twice as long to do this.
O_O Some people think that Hans has no life and is a slave to us. Obviously he has other priorities and any work he manages to get done on the comic is always high quality. I have no complaints Hans!
Well, not really raybecca...just that if he makes a commitment to something, he should stick to it. :P And when you make a big goal of creating a fifteen-volume series, yet in the present can't even churn out a single page every week, peoples' opinion of your word starts to falter...
:( It's free...
I mean... so many webcomics end up going nowhere. DoD is still moving, despite its slow pace. This is his story. If he really cares about it, he'll get it done, someway, somehow. It's not like he's in it for the money or the praise from the fans. He's writing this because he wants to. Now, I don't claim to know him all that well, but from what I've seen, he really does care about DoD.
And if you're a crazy stalker like me, you'll notice that DoD isn't the only thing he's been neglecting. I feel like all his internet things have come to a stand still. He's probably just too busy. People have lives in the real world too.
I'm sorry you never want to come back and check on this comic Anonymous. It is a reality that he may never finish. Many people say they'll do things, like write a novel, and never do, but I have hope in Hans. He'll come back in the near future, couple months from now maybe, and publish a new page.
I'm not mad about the lack of updates. Life happens, I understand. It's that we haven't heard anything in (checks) 2 months yesterday. How long does it take to post something that says, "Sorry, I'm busy right now; I need another Hiatus"? 'Cause that took me all of 10 seconds to type.
I'm sad that there aren't updates too... I found it only like 2 months ago, but I was so excited! I was all, "WOW!". I'm not mad about the lack of updates, but I suppose that I'm disappointed (who wouldn't be?) and a bit sad. I've been faithfully checking up on it though, at least once a week.
If he is writing the comic over again (from what I've read from the comments) then I completely support it :) He's the author, and if he thinks that it should be edited, then I'm sure he has his reasons.
But I do agree with "Sora the Ninja"; it would help if he posted some sort of sign as to what's happening.
And I also concur with Jeesiang; we mustn't lose hope!
We just need to hang in there. He'll keep going. DOD is his baby. I read a blurb on Hans and this manga. It's like his life's work. He published the first book on his own, which takes quite a bit of effort and persnoal drive, and took a break of more than a year to get the word out about DOD at cons and such. I'm sure he's busy with something. I know he hasn't forgot about us, and his updates will eventually get back on track. Who knows he may even be having PC troubles like he had earlier on top of being really busy with life issues. Check back every now and then, but don't get yourselves all worked up if there is nothing new for awhile. Just be patient and have a little faith.
I hope he comes back; after all this is a badass comic. I doubt he will though. Here's to hope!
To the people attacking Hans - as readers, we don't right to be even vaguely unhappy at Hans for ANYTHING. All the stuff about not upholding his word and his commitments and so on - he's not obligated in the least bit to apologize for making people wait or explain himself or even let us know what's happening. (Even if you bought volume one, there was no implicit promise that the rest of the story would follow.)
After all, what does he owe us? It IS free to US, but it takes hours to even create one page, especially at the standard that Hans has for his work. Professional mangaka are backed up with a whole TEAM of people to help them out, and drawing's the only job they have. Hans is a full-time student, has a social life, and probably has a job if what I understand is correct. How many of us students here can say that we're able to handle college and extra ciriculars and a job and still come up with comic pages?
It's at times like these when the artist could USE support, not more discouragment.
Good luck, Hans!
*0* -If- you decide not to finish this webcomic, I would still like to know the storyline. =D I love your webcomic and I would die if I can't figure out what happened to Zephan and the gang. Hope you come back soon!
Right. I don't give a damn about Hans's burdens, obligations, or whatever, so fuck off with the excuses. Nor am I saying this out of some vapid, selfish desire to get MOAR MANGA NAO!1111, so fuck off with telling me I have no right to be demanding manga pages from him because I'm not.
I'm saying this because the way he's dragging his feet on this project is a huge problem. This project is already mostly dead; he's just not admitting it. One of the most surefire signs that a project is nearing death is when the updates, instead of being updates, start assuring you that there will be updates in the future, and it does damage to bait people like that. The only answer to the problem isn't your excuses but to actually solve it.
I'm in agreement with Anonymous (Feb 13, 2009 12:06 PM). I'm willing to be patient as well. Like I said, I was off line for like a month last year with my manga and I've been guilty of inconsistent update scheduling too. So I'll just wait and see what happens. Best of luck Hans!
Alright, there are a few of you who really need to figure out that there doesn't need to be any personal attacks in here. Mostly, I'm talking about any attacks on Hans. If any of you who think that it is easy to put out a manga (which includes both writing a story and drawing it out) of this caliber (thank you Anonymous | Feb 13, 2009 12:06 PM), its not. I am currently working on writing a book as a full time college student with a part time job and multiple extracurriculars, and the last thing that I would want if I was publishing something FOR FREE on the internet that anyone could read is to come back after a particularly difficult period in my life and discover this thread waiting for me on my site. So, come on people, think before you type. I agree with the supporters, go Hans, I hope you get through everything alright, and I can't wait to see where this goes!
All I have to say is "gg"
gg Hans.
he came back from his last major hiatus, right? this webcomic's been his project for years, he'll come back to it. some of you need to back off a little; it's hardly going to provide incentive to return to this. besides, from his previous entries it doesn't seem like he's having an easy time, so lay off.
I really enjoyed reading your comic, Hans. Thanks for sharing! I look forward to your next update. :)
50th! Yes!
To Hans: Although you may not be able to go on with your comic just yet, could you give us some proof that you're still alive?
Thanks. =)
